For me, the 2008 Comtes De Champagne showed that Chardonnay on its own can be outstanding.

Superb wine with enormous depth and length. We tasted this at the beginning of our journey into high price champagnes, and D thought it was one of the best wines he had ever tasted. This comment surprised all of us as D rarely had anything good to say about Chardonnay heavy wines.
